I worked in a corporate which there is quite a number of internal system which is hosted using IP address and there is no domain name. Sometimes, the IP address is freaking long too with subpath.
Thus, this article documented how I used GoLinks to resolve this situation.
Problem Statement
There are several problems that motivate us that this is a problem worth solving.
- Corporate have way too many systems/websites hosted using IP address. It is a disaster when you have to remember IP address. For e.g, your HR system is hosted under 172.31.69.18:7000.What the f ____!!!!
- I always end up have to asked my colleagues some system’s IP address or the other way round which it will distract focus. How much is the cost of distraction? It took 23 minutes and 15 seconds to re-focus.
- Always have to repeatedly share all the URL to new joiners of the company. Well. Who likes repetitive task that doesn’t bring growth to him/herself?
I believed any single point above is enough to encourage us to solve this issue.
Solution
I noticed GoLinks when I chatted with my colleague, William and he told me this tool can probably solve our problems. The best part, it could be shared among your team members.

Steps
1.) Firstly, you have to register and verified your account at GoLinks.io.
2.) Install GoLinks Chrome Extension.
3.) Created your GoLink and key in the necessary information like shown in the picture below.
4.) Subsequently, you will see your golink is successfully created like the picture below.
5.) Lastly, just type go/golinkname in the browser and it will redirect to your desired website.
Conclusion
The setup was pretty easy, time taken is very less and the ROI (Return of Investment) is definitely worth it as I no longer need to remember those pointless IP adresss. Tonnes of benefits that your team would experience like:
